February 2020 Outing

Boston Outing Report

24th January 2020

Ten of us went to Boston and it was a long drive nearly 3 hours. We arrived with strong wind and rain so we walked to the St Botolphs Church, called the Stump, and spent time there. Built in 1612 it was damaged by militant local puritans.  Later we went to the Guildhall where some of the Pilgrims were put in prison for a month because they tried to sail to Holland, see below.

By then it was time to have lunch at Goodbarns Yard and we all thought it was a good restaurant. When we came out the weather was much better so we went to Pilgrim Memorial at Scotia Creek. Built in 1957 the memorial signifies the lengths the Separatists were prepared to flee to Holland. They Chartered a Dutch vessel but the captain was betrayed to the local authorities.

The trip back was good and we all enjoyed the trip even if was a long journey.

Best Wishes,

Ray Waters (Chairman)
