Margate Outing Report Monday 5th March 2018
Up at 4.00 am so that we could get to Botany Bay for the sunrise. Quiet traffic at first but soon got busier even at that time, especially towards London.
We got to Botany Bay in time and saw the sunrise but a few minutes later the sun slipped behind dark clouds and that was that. We spent time there despite the lack of sun. Botany Bay Hotel gave us a fine cooked breakfast – if you get up at 4.00 am then you deserve something!
Then on to Margate and we parked near the Turner Art Gallery (not open on Mondays). I wandered round taking a number of street shots while most others stayed on the beach. The storm seemed to have washed up hundreds of crabs on the sand. Lots of us took shots of the Gormley Statue in the sea.
Lunch at Giorgios in Margate, a friendly service but not all of us thought the food was great.
After lunch we drove to Reculver and spent time photographing the Towers.
Back home around 5.30 and the traffic wasn’t bad.
