Winkworth Arboretum Report
Twelve members went to Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming, Surrey on Monday 6th November 2017.
Winkworth is a National Trust property that is an 80 mile drive south around the M25. It doesn’t open until 10.00 am so we left at 7.00, perhaps a big mistake. There were many hold ups on the M25 and it took most of us nearly three hours to get there, and it was just as bad coming back.
The plan was to photograph the autumn colours and there were some, though not as many as we would have liked. But it was an interesting place with a large lake and picturesque boathouse.
We all tried hard to be creative and had a great day despite the lack of autumn colours. It seems that autumn this year has been very slow, so many trees have lost their leaves while others are still green.
For lunch we went to The White Horse, Hascombe, right opposite the Arboretum and as usual a very good meal with the usual banter and friendly discussions.
